With this option you will learn the basics about family estrangement and also take a deeper dive into the key skills you need to support clients experiencing family estrangement. Work your way through these videos below and when you are finished we hope to see you on Level 3!

Level 1 Test

We're often asked to go on TV and radio to talk about estrangement. We'd love to challenge you to speak about what you have just learned about the subject. Send us a short video answering the questions below.

You can record it on your phone, a camera or you can record yourself on zoom too. It doesn't have to be professional quality, or heavily staged, but it will give us a chance to see if you absorbed the material sufficiently to use with your clients or congregation. You can read from notes if you feel more comfortable. 

(This will only be used for our evaluation and not for publication or sharing with others. It also gives us a chance to get to know you a little better.)

1. What are some common reasons why people become estranged from their family or a key family member?

2. What are the psychological and social impacts of becoming estranged?

3. What kind of support do people want and need?

4. What is often different about the support that estranged adult children need and the estranged parents.

5. So many people will carry limiting and self-destructive beliefs about themselves after estrangement. What are some of these?

6. Is any one generation to blame for estrangement?
